Excerpt from the book: The crowd cheered loudly with excitement at the sound of the
agonising screams of his latest victim as they gathered closely around the stake in
the middle of the old prison courtyard and watched the witchfinders latest 'witch'
burn.
Cheers went out as they stood watching the flames licking the now charred skin on
her body. The overwhelming stench of burning flesh once more filled the air as it
sizzled, the cracking of the wood beneath the victim's feet as it burned red and
slowly turned the beautiful young woman into a smouldering black, unrecognisable
corpse.
From a small window high in a tower of the prison that overlooked the courtyard,
sitting in a large oak throne-like chair was a dark shadow watching waiting,
enjoying the scene with satisfaction. It was the same feeling he had each time he
sent one of these 'devil worshipers' to meet their maker. It always brought that
same old sadistic smile to his face, and this time was no exception.
He looked on and smiled to himself thinking that his trip into the next village was
going to bring him more pleasure than ever before.
He kept thinking over and over how he could not wait to get his hands on the whore
that had thwarted him for so long.
He waited until the flames in the courtyard died down and he could gaze down upon
the ashes and the crowd had long since dispersed before moving away from the window.
He wanted to savour the last drop of enjoyment of the day.
Dusk fell before he turned and headed for his quarters.
The long black cloak that draped around his shoulders dragged along the floor as he
quickly strode down the long dim corridors, pushing aside anyone who got into his
way.
You could hear his evil laughter echoing throughout the cold rat infested prison.....
